The Texas Medical Center runs on long days, early starts and schedules that don't always end on time. If you work there and live in southwest Houston or the suburbs beyond it, dog daycare near the Texas Medical Center commute can mean your dog spends the day playing instead of waiting by the door. Pawliday Inn is on Cedarhurst Dr in southwest Houston, and this page is an honest look at when our daycare hours fit a Medical Center schedule and when they don't.
Who this works best for
The Medical Center is northeast of us. We are not on the way for everyone, so here's the short version.
Daycare tends to fit well if you:
- Live in southwest Houston, Meyerland, Westbury, Willow Meadows, Brays Oaks, Fondren Southwest, or out toward Missouri City and Stafford, and drive in toward the Medical Center each day
- Work a weekday schedule that starts at 7:30 a.m. or later, or have flexible start times
- Can usually leave by late afternoon, or have a partner who can do pick-up
It's harder if you:
- Live north or east of the Medical Center, where coming to us is a detour in the wrong direction
- Work 12-hour shifts that start before 7 a.m. or end after 6:30 p.m.
- Work nights
If you're in the second group, keep reading. There are still ways boarding or a mixed routine can help.
Daycare hours and a Medical Center day
Daycare at Pawliday Inn is full-day. Here's how the day runs:
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. | Check-in |
| Through the day | Outdoor play in yards separated by energy level, with rest time and snack breaks |
| 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. | Check-out |
Our weekday hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Pick-up after 6:30 p.m. has a late fee. Saturday hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday is by appointment.
For research, admin and clinic schedules
If you work regular weekday hours, the math is simple. Drop off on your way in, pick up on your way home. A 7 a.m. drop-off leaves time to get to the Medical Center and park, though garage lines and shuttle waits vary, so give yourself a cushion the first week.
For hospital shift workers
A typical 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. shift doesn't fit inside our hours on its own. Some ways families make it work:
- Split the run. One partner drops off, the other picks up.
- Use daycare on short or off days. On days you're home but exhausted after a stretch of shifts, a daycare day gives your dog the exercise you don't have energy for.
- Board during heavy stretches. If you're working several long shifts in a row, overnight dog boarding in Houston can cover the whole stretch. Our boarding is staffed 24/7, with breakfast, dinner, three scheduled potty breaks and free yard play, and boarding runs seven days a week.
Getting here from the Medical Center side
Pawliday Inn is southwest of the Medical Center, near Westbury and Willow Meadows. The main roads in our part of town are US-90A (South Main), the South Loop (I-610), Fondren and Hillcroft. US-90A runs between the Medical Center area and southwest Houston, which makes it a natural route for many commuters.
When you get close, look for the larger-than-life pup painted on our building at 11206 Cedarhurst Dr.
Houston traffic around the Loop and South Main can stall after a crash or a hard rain. If you're cutting it close to 6:30 p.m., call us at (346) 522 4472.
What your dog's day looks like
While you're on the floor or in the lab, here's what your dog is doing.
Play with dogs at the same energy level
We separate play yards by energy level. A young, high-drive dog plays with dogs who want to run and wrestle. An older or calmer dog gets a quieter yard.
Rest built into the day
Dogs get rest time and snack breaks through the day, so play doesn't boil over. Most dogs go home tired in a good way, which matters when you get home tired too.
Optional add-ons
You can add a short walk, an extra meal or an enrichment treat. An extra meal can help on days when you know you'll be picking up at the end of the window.
Getting started
Every dog starts with a free meet and greet. There's no cost. It's a chance for us to get to know your dog and for your dog to see the place before a full day. Our guide to your dog's first day of daycare covers what happens from drop-off to pick-up.
Before your dog joins daycare:
- Bring records of current Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccinations, plus regular flea, tick and intestinal parasite prevention.
- Tell us about any known behavior, such as aggression, fearfulness, resource guarding, separation anxiety, escape tendencies, or prior bites or injuries.
- Book online. A card on file is required.
We may refuse service to dogs that don't meet requirements or show signs of illness.
If you plan to come several days a week, prepaid day packages and a multi-dog discount are available. See current rates on our homepage. Wondering whether daycare suits your dog at all? Read is dog daycare right for my dog.
